Software-defined networking (SDN) is one of the technologies which has made the deployment of various applications with less investment to be possible. It thus has managed the network by providing the centralization of the system. The SDN can, therefore, monitor and control the data and allow the users to assess many virtual elements while in one place. This has eliminated the traditional difficulty of administration. Another importance of SDN is that it gives users the scalability. Also, it manages the network by providing security. This has assisted in the protection against external attacks (Kreutz, Ramos & Verissimo, 2013). Thus, it gives a transparent infrastructure of the network, which translates to improved security in the network.
SDN is an improvement over the traditional methods in many ways. The conventional approach was finding it hard to monitor and control many systems that were held by individuals. However, in the SDN, this has been made easier by the use of the central management of the network. In traditional methods, most of the resources which were used in networking were bought manually, unlike the SDN, where there is scalability. Therefore, the main difference generally is from the software. Moreover, in the traditional methods, they depend on the physical infrastructure while now it uses the software’s (Archfield, Pugliese, Castellarin, Skøien, & Kiang, 2013).
Though it has helped in many ways, it has faced some of the challenges through the implementation. It includes the latency where the is difficulty in the virtualization of the infrastructure. This is thus a problem that has continually affected the future implementation of the SDN. Also, though there is the management of the network, it is limited. The main reason is due to the devices used, which need to be regularly monitored, and this has hindered the implementation of SDN. Also, the network has more comple
