Behavioural consultation is a popular consultation form in schools. This study seeks to expand on the presented gap where few studies are using older (secondary-age) students to investigate the effectiveness of behavioural consultation.
Behavioural consultation is a problem-solving approach to intervention that comprises of four interrelated stages; problem identification, problem analysis, plan implementation, and problem evaluation. Also, the problem identification interview, problem analysis interview, and the problem evaluation interview are used by the consultant to guide the consultee.
DRL (Differential Reinforcement of Low Rates) comprises of the delivery of a reinforcer contingent and has been used in schools to reduce various behaviours like talking out, obscene language, aggressive behaviours, as well as inappropriate questions. It has been used as an alternative to punishment-based technique to facilitate a reduction of inappropriate behaviour. In this study, a DRL procedure has been employed within an interdependent group contingency’s context to reduce adolescents’ negative verbal interactions in a resource room setting.
