Adichie and Smith say that it is dangerous when a culture defines a person by a single story and encourages a person to speak with a single voice. Where do you stand on this issue?
Our cultures and our lives are comprised of numerous overlapping stories. From Adichie’s story, a single-story must always be one-sided. Adichie states that when people hear a solitary story about another country or person, they risk a vital misunderstanding. It is dangerous when an individual is defined by one single story. Individuals, specifically in childhood, are” vulnerable and impressionable” regarding single stories. Adichie illustrates that literature and media accessible to the public merely tell a single story, and that causes individuals to make and generalize assumptions regarding groups of persons. It is perilous to be based or defined by one single story (Adichie, 2009). That implies that whenever one person is a single-storied side, they might find themselves unable to stand for another side of a story. Being a single-story person means that a person can find themselves in the problems.
Adichie says that she blames herself for being inclined by a single-story aspect, illustrating that many people currently are single troy people. For instance, the single story of Mexican immigration has led to stereotyping due to the incomplete information, and one story must never depict a group of persons. It is also good to understand that cultural and political power affects a story. It is also good to realize that power spreads a story and makes its ideas linger. For instance, a single story regarding the war between communities spread by one party or people in power could have issues between those two communities. It is also critical to understand that it is never good to listen to one side of a story but listen to different sides of the story (Adichie, 2009).
That makes it possible for a person to know and make an informed decision regarding a situation. According to Smith, it is also good to have multiple voices. Smith states that one voice is never enough and strong to be heard by people. It is never good to speak with one voice as it might alter some of your decisions. Smith states that whenever a person looks beyond their voice, it implies that they look beyond their race, ethnicity, and gender. Smith offers the example of Obama, who never spoke with a single voice, and he never let his race or ethnicity define his voice. It is good that a person has different voices and listens to other stories to ensure they make precise decisions in the current society (Smith, 2009). The community today requires a person to get to know the different sides of a story before deciding. It is also vital t
