Written by Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World is the most motivating, inspiring, and uplifting book I have ever read. The book discusses how Hafid, a poor, young camel boy flourishes and obtains a life of abundance by following ten principles written in ancient mystical scrolls (Mandino, 2011). To a great extent, I relate to the protagonist Hafid mainly because he applies good life habits and the virtues of love and patience to succeed.
While working at the Museum of Civilization, The Greatest Salesman in the World was my anchor, inspiring me every day and helping me to see every hardship, failure, and setback as a new opportunity to become better and a good solution finder. Analogous to Hafid, my life involved selling museum arts. It was a hard task, especially when the potential buyers barely saw the meaning of art, yet I had to persuade them to buy. Despite the rejection of my sale proposals, the love for the people around me shielded me from daily life adversities. Although I did not prosper greatly as Hafid, I remember one moment when the museum praised me for being the best seller of the year, something that gave me a sense of happiness and contentedness. The virtue of love helped me build fruitful relationships and accomplish my goals.
