The Message
The message, which was later reproduced as Mohammed, Messenger of God, is a movie in the genre of drama directed by Moustapha Akkad. It is based on the birth of Islamic faith. It is also a story about Prophet Mohammed, who is never heard or seen, as it tends to be considered a wicked sin within the Islamic faith, of the prophet’s physical illustration. Mohammed, in Mecca, tends to be visited by a vision. In the vision, is Angel Gabriel who advises him to lead Meccas individuals, that they worship the only one true God and cast aside those three hundred Kabba idols. As Mohammed and his followers scuffle to worship the only one true God in the way they saw fit, protesting against those corrupt military and political leaders who ruled Mecca, they were eventually led to exile in Medina.
The main characters that have been depicted in the movie are Hamza, Mohammed’s uncle, acted by Anthony Quinn and Zayd his adopted son, acted by Damien Thomas. We find him in command in the battles of Uhud and Badr that have been depicted in this movie, however, the battles tended to be led by Mohammed. We find God giving Mohammed a message that he is supposed to return to Mecca, where he was to take up arms to be against the oppressors and along the way to recruit as many as possible followers they could. Mohammed and his followers are seen to return to Mecca and in the name of God liberate the city with the assistance of a brave warrior, his uncle, Hamza. My favourite character would be Hamza who was a brave warrior, depicted more and assisted Mohammed.
Various challenges were faced in the production of the movie, and Moustapha Akkad had to consult some respected Islamic clerics, so as to be respectful on their view, on how they should portray Prophet Mohammed. The Al Azhar gave him approval in Egypt, but the Muslim World League rejected him in Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The government in Kuwait, Morocco and Libya promised support, in the form of financing the film. However, Kuwait withdrew its promise when the Muslim World League rejected them. From Morocco, Late King Hassan II provided him with the financial assistance he required to produce the film. The production of this movie took about one year to be finalized, filming six months in Morocco and the other six months in Libya, after Saudi government pressured him to stop.
In my case, the movie tends to be a great illustration of Islam birth. The plot tends to focus on historical events but not the Koran itself which tends to contain almost no history from its period. It, therefore, is different from many Biblical epics that tend to present those historic events found in the Bible. It is also accurate in that it attempts to present the birth of Islam as many individuals learn it in the present times. It is more of a movie filled with tone and character rather than fiction, truth and facts. It portrays a decent picture of those times, lifestyles and attitude under which the Islamic faith developed. As the film talks of God’s message being spread and of that story of men who had given away their lives for God’s word to reach many, this including the death of Hamza this created a touching and sorrowful feeling to see how much the word of God is worth. I do not think my emotions can compare to these men, but I can relate to them that is Hamza, my favorite character, who died so as God’s word could be spread, in that I consider the word of God vital and very significant and worth guarding with one’s life. This is because everything that happens in this world including our being is due to him.
The film is about the lifespan of Islam that is how it came into being and its establishment. The uncle of the Prophet Mohammed starred by Anthony Quinn, Hamza, tends to be the leader of one army comprising of loyal men who are against an army comprising of thousands. The film is about defense, unlike offence and tends to come to an end with a peaceful non-armed walk to the city Mecca after long years of suffering. The movie tends to explain how Prophet Mohammed commenced his message, having a few men and in the long run gained thousands, and as seen today in the present, millions of individuals. The film also talks of God’s message being spread and of that story of men who had given away their lives for God’s word to reach many, this including the death of Hamza. This story has assisted me to get a practical understanding of the theory learnt in class, and see physically, how the individuals suffered. That is the followers of Mohammed, and even Hamza’s death, showed how much he believed. The movie tends to give a new insight in nature and meaning of religion, in that it describes the history of Islam faith, and gives instances of individual experienced suffering...
