The Theory of Natural Law versus The Worldview Based on Modern Science.
This research paper is going to look at the main idea of The Theory of Natural Law. Later, it will look at the central feature of the worldview on which the theory is based on and the examples which are offered in support of this worldview. It will also look at the conception of laws of nature as moral laws and the main features of the worldview presented to us by modern science. Finally, it will elaborate the way science-based worldview differ from the worldview of the The Theory of Natural Law as well as the way in which the science-based worldview pose a problem for The Theory of Natural law and the conclusion of the theory.
The theory of Natural law is a system of law that is determined by nature. Its main idea is to analyze the nature of human which is both the social kind of life and the personal behavior that is often dictated by the rules of moral behavior. It can also be divided into the more different parts that more explain the idea of it. First we look at the idea that everything in nature has a purpose. To understand this, research shows that in the 350 B.C, Aristotle said that people should ask themselves questions such as "what is it? What is it for? How did it come to exist? And what is it for?" the questions stated goes a long way to explain the purpose of the things that do exist in the universe and the reasons behind their existence which according to Aristotle, everything has a purpose.
Secondly, the theory of natural law not only specifies how things are, but goes further to describe how "things ought to be." It can be explained by that things are said to be good when they are serving the main purpose and when they are not, they are said to be unnatural. All this is due to the human conduct. According to the natural laws, the rules of molarity are not fulfilling at all and thus the reason behind the saying that some activities are natural while others are unnatural. The third and the final piece that defines the idea of the theory of natural laws is the determination of what is right and what is wrong. The natural law unlike the Divine Command Theory says that the actions of a human beings should be driven by the reasons behind it. These is because God has given human beings the ability to be able to know what’s right and what is wrong. Traditionally, people believed that "the moral judgments are dictated by the reasons." St Thomas Aquinas, one of the greatest theorists also gave a hand in the natural laws’ idea on what’s right or wrong by saying that God himself during the time of creation gave human beings the ability to reason. The theory of natural law is based on the worldview of how things are. The research explains that the universe is a place where things have their own purpose.
The worldview has gone a step further to give examples that support their idea. One of the example is that plants because animals need them for their existence. These is because animals need the plants to feed on so that they can be able to survive. The worldview is also supported by the idea that animals do exist for the sake of human beings. These is because human beings requires the animals to feed on. If not to feed on, the animals that can be tamed are there so that they can be able to help mankind in their day to day life as well as being able to protect him. To the kind of animals that cannot be tamed, human beings can still use them as food and parts of them can also be used in creation of instruments as well as clothes.
The research clearly shows that the worldview has the perception of that everything that exist have a purpose and it tends to agree with the conception of the laws of nature which clearly stands for the nature and the behavior of human beings. The behaviors of human beings are guided by the moral laws. The modern science states that there is no room for facts about rights or wrongs. These has been said by Newton and Darwin who further states that whatever that happens does not only happen because of the cause and the effect that will be caused. The research reveals to that the world relies on the facts of some natural laws and they further state that the only natural laws are the laws of physics, chemistry and biology.
