Universal authorship is a new aspect where almost everyone in the society has the capacity to publish an article, book magazine, send a tweet or post a blog with a lot of ease. Of rate, the rate at which universal authorship is increasing is similar to how the universal literacy was acquired. Statistics indicate that the number of authors have increased ten times more than what was there in the 1400. Several factors have contributed to the increase in the rate of universal authorship. They include the popularity of the internet and the shift to web 2.0.
Internet has led to improved accessibility of information by anyone across the globe. Internet has shown that it has the robust ability to connect writers. This new form of communication is 100 times faster than the books. The digital revolution has enabled anyone with a laptop and a wi-fi card to interact with other writers. This has influenced the society to move from a culture of universal readership to universal authorship. Some predictions have asserted that by 2013 the world population will be entirely composed of authors. In the 1400 publishing used to be handwritten but now we have moved from pencils to pixels. The fact that twitter is going global within the next four years will be a boost to the universal authorship.
Internet has contributed much to the authorship in that, figures has it that within five years we shall move from 60 bloggers to a million. Social network such as the Face book will jump from 50,000 to over 75 million. Results from an authorgraph assembled by Pelli and Bigelow showed that in 1400 we only had 50 authors. Book publication has since grown to an extent that by 2000 it peaked to around a million authors in a year. Universal authorship has shifted attention from the minority who cannot read to others who cannot publish. Also, it has influenced the society to change from being consumers to creators.
