A political system of any country determines the future of the citizens of the given country. It entails a set of formal legal institutions that constitute a government. Therefore, a system of interactions in independent societies performs the functions of adaptation and integration by means of legit transformation and maintaining order in a given society forms the basis of a political system (Duignan, 2013). This study seeks to examine the ramification of dual political party system, the Republican and the Democrats in the US, as opposed to the idea of the need for a third main political party in the United States.
According to Gauja (2013), the United States is divided into territorial national states, in which the national government claims to exercise sovereignty as it seeks to compel obedience to its will by its citizens. These states are composed of people of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. Such states with immigrants from mother countries may end up establishing political structures similar to those of the metropolitan centre. Therefore, in order to compel such forces, it is significant for US to consider having only two main political parties as they form the basis for dominant culture (Bardes et al. 2015).
In liberal societies like the United States, the categorization of political parties has an important rationale on the voters. Political parties in the United States of America are comprehensively regulated by the state, despite the constitutional freedom of speech and association (Duignan, 2013). For example, this effect can be examined in the area of financing campaign where expenditure by political parties has to be monitored. Therefore, issues regarding transparency and fairness in the electoral contest can closely be examined with two parties. In order to achieve this practice by the US electoral body, it is important to consider only two main political parties, republican and Democrats. In this case, it is easier to establish substantial legal regulation of the financial and internal affairs of the two parties.
In 1982, Johari stated that the political stability of any given nation spurs a significant economic growth of such a nation. The US has dominated the world in economic growth by focusing on only two political parties. In this regard, it has been easier to achieve a political moderation whenever there is the need for consensus to be reached by either party. An introduction of a third main party can result in unconventional rapid changes in the government policies that result in a slow economic growth of the US.
