Fashion is something that never dies because it travels from one generation to another. Traditional fashion designs are usually emulated and carried forward by designers. While traditional designers were inspired by what was happening in their time, contemporary designers got inspiration from traditional designs as well as what is happening in the world today. In the modern designs, various elements of the historic Korean dress designs have been seen. An example is in Jin Teok’s contemporary designs where she has incorporated some of the traditional Korean subjects, symbols, as well as other patterns in creating her designs. Some of the designs by Karl Lagerfeld also show the use and application of traditional Korean designs. One of his designs has Korean rubber footwear that is known to be of Korean origin. Some of his designs comprise the chrysanthemum and lotus flowers that come from traditional Korean designs. The same is similar to the designs made by Im Seonoc and Jung Misun. An example is that Im uses boleros, which are traditional jackets for Korean women. On the other hand, Misun, although his designs are copied from traditional garments, uses knitted jerseys instead of silk as her main fabric.
When it comes to the use of historic dresses, the works of the four designers show some similarities and differences. For instance, Im and Misun took a year working with the Arumjigi Culture keepers to Foundation in order to study traditional Korean clothing.
