Characteristics of Fauvism
Characteristics of fauvism trace their roots to 1905 when the art first emerged in Paris. As a new phenomenon in fine arts, fauvism posed a huge threat to academically congealed arts, which were being circulated to appeal to the narrow-minded and less creative customer. In addition, the emergence of fauvism gave a run for their money all forms of art, which sought after fame and prosperity after absorbing innovation. The unique nature of fauvism turned it into a beloved piece of art across France. Therefore, fauvism has several characteristics, including conspicuous and bright colour, hard nature, and changing patterns.
For starters, the major characteristic of fauvism is its conspicuous and bright colour. When a group of young artists, approximately 10, showcased their works in Paris at the Salon d’Automne in 1905, the first factor to be noticed was the unusually bright colour of the art (Brodskaya 7). The works had vibrant and attractive colours, making people refer to them as wild beasts. The bright colour of fauve paintings quickly convinced people that the art possessed definite recognizable features. Vauxcelles admitted the boundaries and bar that the art had created upon its unveiling and predicted that the art would gain success and popularity.
