The antebellum period (1815-1860) is considerably the most vivid and dynamic in the entire history of America. The market revolution, industrial revolutions, transportation, unprecedented urbanization and its consequences, the spawning of religious revivals like varied figures as Joseph Smith and Charles Finney as well as the various movements that sought to address the social evils extending from slavery to prostitution (Bodenhorn, 2000, p.213).
