The book can be used to motivate young learners since it has various motivational quotes and various learning activities can be easily established from the literature. The easiness of relating the encounters of Mandela in the book enables one to come up with activities that relate to the students' daily experiences which serve in motivating the young learners. The book entails a broad range of social activities as experienced by the late Mandela implying that it can be of importance in learning among students in the context of social studies. This is because; the social activities described in the book are relevant in social studies (Mandela, 1995). How the book could be used to motivate adolescents to read As an autobiography Long Walk to Freedom is a book by the late South African president Nelson Mandela in 1995. The book describes the life of Nelson Mandela from childhood to his rise in the political arena in south. There are several ways of using the Long walk to Freedom by nelson Mandela to motivate adolescents to read which includes: The writer of the book provides great inspiration to young learners as a result of fight for equality in South. Nelson Mandela is an iconic leader whose literature provides inspiration to the reader. An adolescent finds it is easy to read the book since they can easily identify with the writer. Moreover, quotes in the book can also be used in motivating adolescents in that, the students are encouraged to describe different situations in life where the quotes in the book are applicable. The book also gives information on the upbringing of Nelson Mandela including is education which serves in motivating adolescents in the sense of the application of education to make a difference in the society and one's life (Mandela, 1995). The book further provides the learner with a systematic flow of information from the birth to the political supremacy of Nelson Mandela. This provides a great learning atmosphere for students since adolescents prefer story based literature rather than descriptive. The anxiety by the adolescents to know more about the famous former presidents of South Africa is another way of motivating them to read. Moreover, the episodes in the literature can be easily integrated in the group activities such as plays and discussions which easily motivate the adolescents to read (Mandela, 1995) Instructional activities that could be used to engage students before, during, and after reading Before reading the literature, the students should research on the history of Nelson Mandela and his influence in South Africa's politics. The students should also focus on the social events that took place during the apartheid period in South Africa and importance of politicians such as Mandela in bringing equality in the country. Furthermore, the students should learn the various social events that might have taken place in prisons of South Africa during the apartheid period (Kamil, 2008). While reading the book, the students should identify the parts the interest them most. There is also need by the students to identify several motivational quotes from the book and present them in class. After reading the literature, the students should be able to relate the research done before reading the book and identify the similarities and differences (Mandela, 1995). In addition, the students should come up with ways of utilizing the quotes from the book in real life by describing situations in life where they are applicable. The students should also write a review of the book and identify the various unique social aspects identified in Mandela's life (Kamil, 2008).Activities Acting: Acting is an outside class activity which has its use to motivate the learners to read.
