The study of history allows us to contextualize our current reality and understand the origins of current institutions, values, and trends. Even more important, it allows us to learn from past mistakes and triumphs of generations that came before us to understand better how we can shape our world and use our position as individuals to make positive changes in the world around us. Studying history teaches invaluable lessons that can be applied to own life. History shows the consequences of actions, builds empathy and understanding of others and allows thinking about situations from all perspectives, not just ours.
