The Repercussions Of the Gulf War
The Gulf war broke out in August 1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Between august 1990 and January 1991 the war was dubbed "Operation Desert Shield" and between January and February 1991 the combat phase was referred to as the "Operation Desert Storm" (Podliska, 2010). This war had massive repercussions on the war veterans, economies of the countries involved as well as the commoners. Discussed below are the logistical challenges and repercussions of the war and how the Americans and the allies coped with them (Podliska, 2010).
The war had massive impact on war veterans as well as the commoners. Many soldiers lost their lives as others were seriously injured. 2.3 million Soldiers were observed to be suffering from the "Gulf War Illness" which included depression, joint pains, moodiness, and chronic fatigue among others (Podliska, 2010). The war caused environmental disturbance. Thousands of gallons of oil were released into the Arabian gulf and thousands of ship carrying oil were sunk into the gulf (Podliska, 2010). This greatly disturbed the ecosystem. There was also air pollution as hundreds of oil wells were set on fire. Further, the war caused economic effects on the countries involved. Iraq was the most affected.
During the war there were logistical challenges encountered by America and her allies. The military were able to cope with these challenges successfully to the extent of winning the war (Podliska, 2010). One of the greatest challenges was getting insufficient resources to everybody equally. This was contributed to due to poor infrastructure and unfavorable weather.
