THE USS COLE BOMBING
The USS Cole was an American navy seal ship that was assigned to patrol the northern Persian Gulf, a region that was full of terrorism and extremist groups. It was a missile-guided ship that was able to counter terrorism both on land and in the sea. On October 12 2000 it was attacked on the harbor of Aden in Yemen CITATION Uni01 \l 1033 (United States., Clinton, & States, 2001). This was an attack orchestrated by a militia group which was linked to Osama bin laden. This attack left 17 people dead while another 39 were severely injured.
This essay will evaluate the impact of the bombing, reactions from the US government and the measures they should take to combat future attacks.
DISCUSSION
US GOVERNMENT RECACTION TO THE ATTACK
Following the attack, the US congress house held a series of meetings to evaluate what might have went wrong leading to the attack. They gave a look at the security details by the Cole before it stopped for refueling. Furthermore, they evaluated if it was necessary to stop for refueling and if it will able in the future to use other means of refueling like ocean tanks. In addition, they also noted that before arriving at the harbor Cole had filled a defense plan the Bravo protection plan which was a higher level of defense.
INTELLIGENCE REPORT
The US intelligence department in association with armed forces also decided to carry out investigation on what might have caused the attack. Many questions were raised on whether measures would have been taken to avoid the bombing.
