Abstract
This paper provides the importance and requirements of web accessibility and usability that further gives web developers a reason for enhancing the two in their web development. In doing so, the paper first goes through past literature material and finds out that there is an inherent research gap as most of the available literature only focuses on a particular field for the web accessibility and usability. This paper addresses the research gap by using contextual analysis and thematic analysis of past literature. The key findings are that both web usability and accessibility are important in enhancing customer satisfaction, customer trust, the contribution of the disabled to community activity, and web credibility. As for the requirement of web accessibility and usability, a website should be with high learnability, efficiency, memorability, and satisfaction. As such, the paper concludes that web developer should enhance web accessibility and usability for the websites they are developing.
Introduction
Internet connectivity across the world has changed the way of life for over half of the world's population. The majority of those using the internet are from developed countries, with the developing countries also catching up. People access the internet over search engines such as Google and Yahoo search engines. This is done using smartphones, organizational computers, and personal computers. One of the platforms that allow people to access information is the website. Usually, various services are provided through organizational and government websites. As such, websites are essential for internet users and helps one to access information with ease. Usually, a website will involve the collection of various webpages that have related content that has a common domain name, and that is usually published on one or more web servers. Some of the websites have limited access, which leads to the requirements of passwords and other security clearances before access will others are open to the public. Websites have various requirements that impact on how they are used by the users. Some of these key requirements are web accessibility, web usability, and web inclusions.
