Therefore, this essay illustrates in detail on the reasons as to why I am against the death penalty. The first debate in opposition to death chastisement is it is unwarranted in its administration. Statistics shows that the poor and minorities are more likely to receive a capital punishment. It cannot be disputed that the rich are more likely to get off with a lesser sentence, and this bias is wrong. The cultural and financial preconceived notion is not a suitable disagreement against the death penalty, but an argument against courts and their unfair system of sentencing. The implication here is that murdering a human being who is a disincentive to misdeed is, in real meaning, using a human being as an income rather than the ends (Pojman, 2000). It is true as Kantian ethics states that we are to treat individuals as having intrinsic value and not just instrumental value. The second argument against the death penalty is that it is at all times doable that a convict who is on death chain may perhaps turn out to be guiltless. There are faults in every criminal justice system because we adopt the adversarial system. It is where the prosecution and defense have sufficient freedom to control the process of evidence. The adjudicator acts purely as an unreceptive trendsetter who makes sure that everything is in order and decides on the issues presented to him or her. The prosecution lawyers, on the other hand, are often obsessed not with finding the truth, but with the conviction of the accused (Darrida, 2013). Essentially, we have a just system where only those who can afford the best lawyers can adequately be defended in courts. Thus, I am entirely against the death penalty because it is not practiced in a justly way.
