This principle is applied by courts in Florida to ensure that in making child support order, the courts should consider the best interest of the child. The money paid by the parents is paid to one of the parents to ensure that the child is comfortable and receives the essentials necessary for his or her daily living. It pays for medical insurance, food, shelter, school fees and payment of entertainment for the child. The payment of child support is determined by the use of a calculator that gives the figures that one parent should send to the other parent for the benefit of the child.
There are various statutes that deal with the payment of child support in the State of Florida. The most applied legislative instrument governing child support is Section 61:13. The statute covers the payment of child support, the time that each parent spends with the child and the jurisdiction of the court in handling child support matters.
