Mental Awareness and Management Training Correctional facilities are meant to help individuals reform, but they often fail to achieve this duty. The prevalent stigma surrounding inmates makes it hard for them to go through the correctional processes smoothly. People hold stereotypes that affect inmates, from viewing them as criminals to avoiding or discriminating against them. The entire process deeply affects these inmates, instigating difficulties in adapting and often leading to mental health challenges. Darani et al. (2023) state that correctional facilities have many people suffering from mental issues while correctional officers lack education on how to respond to these mental health conditions. Therefore, mental health awareness and management are common workplace training needs in the correctional industry, and they require sensitive and timely training. Many inmates go through a hard time transitioning to a life in a correctional facility and struggle mentally with the changes they encounter in the process. The prevalence of mental illness among illness suggests that there is little input toward curbing the solution or a lack of beneficial knowledge by employees in the correctional facilities to respond to the issue. In Canada, the ratio of male inmates who have psychosis or major depression disorder ranges at a ratio of one in every seven (Darani et al., 2023). The prevalence of mental issues necessitates training of correctional officers to respond to the problem and help employees maneuver over their mental issues. The best approach to meeting this training need cost-effectively is to organize a physical meeting monthly and use other media weekly to train employees. The contemporary world relies heavily on technology, which makes it easy to use support media, such as handouts, videos, and computer-based training (Cannon & Gustafson, 2002). Before the first training session, handing out handouts on the issue may be necessary. Also, employees may be required to review weekly blog updates about mental health awareness and management. The approach will primarily invest in the physical meeting regarding finances, with the rest actualizing available resources in the institution. The training needs to influence mental health awareness and management among employees in the correctional industry. These needs start from training employees to understand mental health issues, learn how to engage inmates, and also seek help or suggest resources for these individuals. The meeting will also empower employees to take care of each other. The training process will incorporate physical meetings, which will engage trainers who are proficient in the topic.
