INTRODUCTION
Reasons or a logical basis for capital punishment
It is also known as the death penalty. It is the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime. The death of a criminal as a punishment is not allowed in any part of the human rights. The death of a criminal is like a war of one citizen versus the entire citizens in that nation.Some of the reasons include;
Population Opinion
Capital punishment is deemed fit when lives of others are endangered whereas the criminal who's been captured and had their liberty taken away, puts other lives in danger then, the death of such a citizen is similar to having less burden to others within the state.
Deterrence
It is justified that the act of capital punishment would discourage murder, the condemned would be murdered for committing such crimes in the society. It is more effective if it is performed immediately after the crime has been performed. Execution instills fear especially one that is done publicly in a painful and humiliating way. This would cause current criminals fear to perform the crime in the near future.
Prevention of re-offending
Capital punishment helps in that, once the offender is dead, there will be no more reasons for them to commit the crime again, cause they are lifeless. If that prisoner is imprisoned for life some go ahead and become a threat and danger to other inmates. Execution would, therefore, eliminate that offender.
Prison
One is imprisoned for various reasons, some of which are to isolate the wrongdoer from the public, to prevent them from doing more crimes, to take away their freedom and liberty.Imprisoning one is to enable them to be corrected and when their term is over they get back to the society as reformed persons. Prisons are not meant to keep wrongdoers for life, those who have done crimes that would subject them to lifetime imprisonment should find themselves facing capital punishment, it would be proper for prisons to serve their rightful purpose and capital punishment faces its purpose.
Appropriate punishment
In the current society every wrong done has its way of being punished and in so doing. It is well known as an ‘eye for an eye’ type of justice, so a wrongdoer who has performed murder bests serves murder, as the best form of punishment.
Cost of Prison
With the current economy, every deed has its price, this comes to a point where even when someone has done wrong they are expected to pay for it. When a criminal is arraigned in court and the judge and the jury find it right to sentence one to life imprisonment, they are burdening the prison with unnecessary expenses, so it would be wise to execute the criminal so as to do away with the expenses. Unless the government states otherwise, that it is costly to execute than to sentence one to life imprisonment.
It provides closure for victims
When a murder kills a certain victim, in an event of robbery or any other crime, they deprive the family members of their loved one. When this murderer is sentenced to life imprisonment it makes the family members feel stressed and haunted by the fact that the same murderer who took the life out of their loved one is still alive. It is fair enough to ensure that they get equal justice by having the murderer executed so as to place them in peace and less fear of the murderer.
It's what Criminals fear the most
According to Bundy he talked of his life in prison waiting for his execution in 9yrs, while in prison he tried every means possible to seek for clemency, he wanted to be pardoned cause he feared death, on his date of execution he still went ahead to ask for clemency, since death was the most he feared.
It is not usually cruel
When wrongdoers are near execution period they are several ways through which one can be executed, some which include:
Electrocution on the electric shock, hanging, shot at by the firing squad.
-Electrocution by the electric chair
Here an electric shock is directed straight to the brain in that the victim’s brain does not get to register pain hence the victim dies without feeling pain.
-Hanging
The neck of the condemned is snapped around the second vertebrae, this prevents the entire body from sending pain signals to the bra
