The Major Roadblock to Fairness and Equity
The major roadblock to Fairness and equity within our criminal justice system is the lack of accountability, transparency, and diversity. There is a lack of responsibility because there is no mechanism to hold individuals, agencies, or institutions accountable for their actions. There is a lack of transparency because the system is not open to public scrutiny (Justice and Fairness, https://www.scu.edu/ethics/ethics-resources/ethical-decision-making/justice-and-fairness ). This lack of accountability and transparency leads to a lack of trust in the design and creates an environment where people do not feel they can get a fair shake.

The lack of accountability and transparency also leads to a lack of resources for the system. The system is already underfunded and understaffed. This lack of resources makes it challenging to provide adequate services to those needing them. It also makes it difficult to investigate and prosecute cases. This lack of resources creates a cycle of injustice that is difficult to break. The lack of diversity is the major roadblock to Fairness and equity within our criminal justice system. Most people working within the criminal justice system are white, middle-aged men. This lack of diversity can lead to several problems, including a lack of understanding of and empathy for people of different backgrounds, a lack of knowledge of other cultures, and a lack of awareness of the potential biases that may exist within the criminal justice system.
