Q: How effective (or ineffective) are U.S. protections for individuals in this category? Be specific. Give examples.
A: Every individual with a liberal mind has a right to worship. Sometimes this might not be the case in other places due to certain regulations, beliefs or cultures. In the U.S, religious rights are reflected in both the federal and state constitutions and laws and as such, every individual is fully protected against religious discriminations. For instance, today in the U.S, no religion receives special treatment for any course whatsoever with regard to funds, or ownership of property. The laws in place prohibit any attempts by any government agency to make any religious amendments that would paralyze equal treatment to all religions (preservationnation.org, 2016). In a case of religious historic property preservation, the courts are finding it difficult to ascertain whether religious historic property should be destroyed or not. This is because in other clauses, this is not viewed as a compelling state interest and therefore the initial protections form a major basis for all other arguments, with preservation laws being adopted majorly from these protections. However, since the world is evolving, courts are also evolving as it is with some laws. In a certain case in Rectors, a federal court ruled out an application that a landmark law imposed an unconstitutional burden on religious freedom. The church however suffered a major drawback with regard to this ruling. The ruling restricted its
capacity to raise charity and ministerial revenues as part of their programs.
Q: How are U.S. protections for this category different from protections in another country?
A: In U.S, services are offered equally to all people of both sexes. In some countries, women teachers who get pregnant while working in religious affiliated institutions are fired on the basis that one should get pregnant if she is married. This is completely different in the U.S where the constitution and other laws touching on religious rights and on human rights do not prohibit any person, regardless of sex, to certain practices. Gay people for instance, ate treated much better in equal measure in the U.S than many other countries. For example, being gay in the U.S is not a factor that would burden gay couples in their ability to exercise their faith (Mitoma, 2013). Furthermore, religion in other countries has seen advancements in terms of birth control measures, present and practiced in the U.S, brought under dispute with majority of them remaining opposed to the idea. The U.S unlike other countries, continue to evolve and every time, adjustments are made as might be required, that benefit all in an acceptable manner. At the end of the day, these countries use religion as an excuse to discriminate.
