Charles Carl Robert, husband to Marie Monville, entered the Old Order Amish one room school at around 10 AM with 9 mm handgun, 12 gauge shortgun, a bag with black powder, two knives, rifle, and a stun gun. Robert opened fire at the Amish School in the rural Pennsylvania on the October 2, 2006. Robert ushered 15 boys, one pregnant woman, three other women, and other infants from the Amish School. Robert shot ten girls. Three of the young girls died immediately, and two others died while in the hospital (Engle, 2006). One young girl said, "I saw some Amish men walking down the town’s streets. I knew they were coming for my parents in the house." I went to my dad and mum and said, "What do I do? Can I go to talk to them? She said, you can stay inside without understanding the results (Kraybill & Nolt, 2007). In the unbelievable display of forgiveness, Monville could not believe watching Amish men kicking her family members. "I could not hear the words they were speaking, I just saw the embrace." Surprisingly, the Amish community assisted Monville and the rest of her family through the unbelievable tragedy.
According to the Pennsylvania police, Charles Robert had phoned his wife within the Amish school before murdering the Amish children. Ironically, Robert’s wife, Monville, was leading to the prayer group that was organized to pray for the Amish School Children. The occurrence can be explained in anger at God because his newborn baby had died only 20 minutes after being born prematurely (Engle, 2006).
Communities and individuals that practice forgiveness over time and provide support to one another in the process of demonstration overcome the evil with good. This merits our profound respect and they can show us the correct way. The forgiveness that was offered after the Amish School Children shootings near the Paradise in the Pennsylvania in October 2, 2006 is such an inspiring example presented in the narrative. After the shooting of the ten innocent Amish School children, the non-violent community responded to the unfair suffering of this surprising violence by offering kindness and forgiveness to the shooter’s family. Also, the Amish communities expressed sadness for the shooter, thus practicing forgiveness for the wrongdoer and providing him a place in the community.
In conclusion, I have noted that forgiveness is an exacting response to the evil-doing, and it is commended within the larger moral framework that is itself entrenched in a narrative. The narrative in which forgiveness finds a place in the community articulates the benefits of repairing what is broken, thus sticking with it rather than fleeing, detaching, or insulting the one who does wrong in the community.
