Whenever the word global warming is mentioned the word gets worried. Global warming has become a great challenge today. Currently global warming is the most trending debate on United Nations conferences and forums all these with an aim of finding valid solutions to this disaster. The scientists have proven that indeed there is global warming. Each debate and every speaker has a different opinion about the causes of global warming, but according to me, we should not be talking or debating about global warming instead we should be on the forefront finding solutions to the problem. So what is global warming?
Global warming is defined as the uncontrolled and gradual rise in the earth's atmosphere normal temperatures with an adverse effect on the climate. The rise of temperatures is due to agricultural and industrial activities. It is believed that the main cause of global warming is human activities. These activities by humans have facilitated the emission of greenhouse gases including methane and carbon (IV) oxide. These gases are responsible for warming the earth's surface. The gases absorb different amounts of heat, this absorption of heat results to the increase in earth temperatures normally referred to as greenhouse effect which occurs when the absorbed heat is held back to the surface of the earth after re-radiation causing temperature rise.
Global warming is caused largely by the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which include methane and carbon dioxide. The gases trap heat that is should be released to the atmosphere thus causing an increase in temperature on the earth's surface. These gases are emitted by various human activities also including industrial activities.
Nonexistence of these greenhouse gases would mean that there would be less absorption of heat thus implying significant reduction in the earth's temperatures. This means that global warming would be reduced although it is not possible since many human activities lead to increased emission of these gases. These activities that lead to emission of greenhouse gases include the exploration of fossils, burning of charcoal, industries, increased farming practices, mineral exploration and cutting down trees.
Global warming has caused a series of effects on the earth's surface. These affects have been classified as social or economic, physical and ecological. Physical effects comprise of extreme weather conditions such as rising temperatures, warmer temperature which may cause increased drought, powerful hurricanes and forceful rainstorms. Global warming has caused significant climatic changes. These are the ways in which global warming can cause changes in regional climate, melting or forming ice, changing the hydro cycle and changing currents in the ocean and air flows in the atmosphere and melting of glaciers across different parts of the world as evidenced by the rapidly diminishing cap of Kilimanjaro. The vanishing of glaciers and fluctuations in rainfall has an effect on the sources that provide human beings with water for consumption, agricultural and industrial activities for example production of energy.
