Why Freud abandoned seduction hypothesis
Sigmund Freud is known as the father of psychology. His work plays an important role in the development of his own -psychoanalytical- theory and other psychological theories. During 1890s Freud was working on the seduction theory, but he abandoned it. Researchers explain various reasons behind his course of action. Seduction theory perceived sexual assaults at an early age as the cause of neurosis. Freud had noted that in a fair number of cases clients didn’t report a history of sexual abuse. Also, those who reported having been abused, Freud question whether it was the truth or they were just fantasizing. In its place, Freud decided to incorporate childhood sexual assault, the id ego and superego components of personality and levels of consciousness. The dynamic approach came to be known as psychoanalysis.
Significant influences on Freud work
The work of his psychology friend and colleague Otto Rank inspired Freud to continue his research. The lecturer once presented Freud with a manuscript which prompted him to offer Otto a chance to work with him in Vienna Psychoanalytic society. Later concepts he had written about would play a role in the development of psychoanalytic theory.
Freud credited Joseph Breuer in writing saying he was the reason behind the discovery of psychoanalytical methods and theory. As Freud put it, psychoanalysis came to develop from analysing some young who was a client of Joseph Breuer who presented the then, female hysteria disorder.
