The term narcissism varies widely in usage across the psychological spectrum. According to Henseler (2018), a narcissist is an individual with an inflated sense of self-admiration, entitlement, and lacking empathy. Way before Freud, the concept of narcissism originated from ancient Greek folklore told about Narcissus, who fell in love with his reflection in the water. In a publication titled “On Narcissism: An Introduction (1914)”, Freud examines what he considers to be the dynamics and mechanics of narcissism, which he links to the psychosexual development of human beings (1957).
