Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopment disorder characterized by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior and difficulties with social communication and interaction. Psychology helps the people affected with autism to identify the symptoms and learn adaptive measures to ensure a smooth coexistence between themselves and the people suffering from the abnormality. This paper discusses autism and how psychology has influenced it.

Autism is a physical disorder that is linked to abnormal chemistry and biology in the brain. The exact causes of the abnormalities remain to be unknown but genetic factors seem to be influential. For instance, it is common to have language abnormalities. Chromosomal abnormalities s and neurological disorders in families with autism. Researchers are trying to study the difference between an autistic brain and a healthy brain while other researchers are trying to identify the defects that occur in the initial brain development and the defects of the brains of people diagnosed with autism. The symptoms occur from childhood and the affected person may show them in adulthood.
