Positive Thinking and Mental Health
Due to the highly unpredictable nature of life, it is normal to go through unpleasant moments. Experiences such as job stress and family pressures affect people’s mental state adversely. As psychologists examine the cause of mental illness, they usually attribute it to how people think and react. In response, it has emerged that how a person feels about a situation is directly proportional to the outcome. Positive thinkers have better mental health compared to pessimists; their stress is low and self-esteem high besides having an optimistic view of life, which reduces depression and anxiety.
Positive thinking helps people to avoid and overcome stress. Given the broad spectrum of life experiences, no one is immune to stressful conditions. Each day, there is a high possibility of experiencing a disappointing moment irrespective of one’s occupation, health status, and family condition, among other factors.
