Abstract
There has been lots of research into the links between personality traits and aggressive behaviour however there appears to be a lack of research into the links between female aggressive behaviours and personality traits. This literature review examines published research in the field of aggression and personality and focussing on the Five Factor Model (Costa & Widiger, 1992) examines the possible reasons for the lack of research in this area. One of these theories is the lower number of females committing violent behaviours and therefore a lower sample size regarding convictions. The second possibility is that of female personality traits differing from those traits that have been linked to aggression (low agreeableness).
