Mindfulness is a nonjudgmental awareness of one's reality in the present moment. Mindfulness is a state, not a trait, in this sense (Shapiro & Carlson, 2009). Mindfulness is simply being in the moment and having an observation of yourself. Getting out of your mind and observe yourself without any judgment. Observing yourself and knowing what is going on around your life is also mindful (Actualized org, 2014).
These definitions converge at one point: they all talk about being aware of being conscious. The definitions focus on the same thing, which is paying attention to what is in the present.
