Freedom of and/or from religion is a fundamental human right in almost all the countries across the world. This has led to the emergence of various religions practiced worldwide. This paper seeks to give a comparative analysis of world religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Jainism.
Christianity and Islam buy the same conception of God, and that His paramount attribute is Grace and Divine Mercy. However, Muslims differ in the belief with Christians in essential ways; Islam holds individuals responsible for their sins and do not share beliefs in blood sacrifices (Narayanan, 2010). On the other hand, Christianity believes in the original sins and holds descendants responsible for the sins committed by their forefathers Islamic doctrine insinuates that it is not by the good works of believers, but by God’s Mercy that they achieve salvation. Both religions believe in sacred law (Simmons, 2009).
Hinduism and Jainism have distinctive differences. Jainism has no belief in incarnations. They also believe that there is no sole creator of the universe: the universe in infinite, eternal and functions on its own cosmic law and involves earth, hell, and heaven (Simmons, 2009). However, the two religions have some common beliefs: people have a free will to do well or commit wrong. Both religions believe that evil is a result of attachments, cravings, and ignorance which accumulate through unending rebirths leading to hatred, greed, and violence. Another common belief between the two religions is undeserved suffering (Narayanan, 2010).
