Addressing The Subject of Deviant Behavior (Essay Sample)
READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU START
● In each answer, you must cite the required readings.
o Your in-text citation must include the authors’ last names, year of publication, and the pages you consulted with for your answer. If you have an ebook and page numbers are dependent on font size, provide the subsections of the chapters that you used.
▪ Example of in-text citation (Thio, Taylor, and Schwartz, 2018, pp. 111-114) or (Thio, Taylor, and Schwartz, 2018, Chapter 5, subsection).
o You are not allowed to quote any text! There should be no quotes in your answers. Quotes means text that’s verbatim from the reading. The answers must be in your own words.
o While citation that includes page numbers is usually provided for quotes, you must provide them (or subsection of chapter) for paraphrased text. In other words, include the page numbers (or subsections) of the material you summarized.
o You are also not allowed to cite (quote or paraphrase) my lectures. You must cite the original source as my lectures are based on the required readings.
● In addition to citing the textbook, you must cite each video/film on the syllabus for chapters 1-6 at least twice—citing a video twice in the same answer doesn’t count as two video citations (e.g., use scenes or concepts discussed in the videos to further your arguments. Video/film hyperlinks are on the syllabus).
o Be specific when making references to the videos. Do not provide only a citation. Explain its applicability, briefly describe and explain the relevance of what happened in whatever scene(s) you’re referencing (i.e., use scenes or concepts discussed in the videos to further your arguments not just to tell me you watched the video).
● Citation is not included in the minimum word limit.
● I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANSWERS THAT ARE NOT PROPERLY CITED (that means if the authors and/or page numbers/and/or sections are omitted).
● I WILL ALSO NOT ACCEPT OUTSIDE SOURCES UNLESS THESE SOURCES ARE IN ADDITION TO THIO, TAYLOR, AND SCHWARTZ, IN WHICH CASE YOU’LL HAVE TO CITE BOTH SOURCES. THERE’S NO REASON TO CITE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE TEXTBOOK AND VIDEOS.
● Plagiarism will NOT be tolerated (e.g., copying word for word or paraphrasing from any source without citing the source will result in an automatic ZERO.
● Submission:
o You must submit this document in the format received (e.g., Word document). Otherwise, I will not accept the file.
o Do not submit a .pages or pdf. If you are using a Mac, you can save your document as a Word file. Scroll down to Word on the dropdown menu for the file extension when saving your document.
