Causes of Genocide in Rwanda
Introduction
Rwanda experienced appalling murder cases in the world in 1994. The Belgian colonial tenure had been ruling Rwanda through Tutsi chiefs and monarchs (Magnarellav 26). The Europeans viewed the Hutu as inferior, and the sixty years of prejudicial perceptions crushed the ethnic group’s ego. A pro-Hutu party created a revolt in 1959, culminating in a bloody ethnic atrocity. About 130 000 fled to Uganda Zaire, and Burundi and the horticultural Hutu claimed their land (Magnarellav 26). Refugees formed the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and conducted assaults between 1990 and 1993 (Magnarellav 27). Tense war and ethnic murders broke in Rwanda when President Habyarimana’s plane crashed on the way to Kigali Airport. The causes of genocide in Rwanda were colonial racial systems, discriminatory leadership, the RPF developments, the Arusha Accord, President Habyarimana assassination, and scramble for a limited resource.
