Climate Change Impacts on Vulnerability and Equity
Introduction
The impacts of climate change continue being observed and felt worldwide. Polar ice continues to melt, leading to a rise in sea level. Some regions of the earth report extreme weather events and high rainfall. Other parts of the globe experienced severe weather occurrences such as high heat waves and prolonged droughts. These adverse effects of climate change continue to intensify and are predicted to shift from worse to the worst in the coming decades. As a result, human health is at risk as the number of heat-related deaths in some areas and cold-related deaths in other regions become rampant.

These populations are disproportionately impacted by climate change.

A study by Swiss Re Institute's Stress-test analysis investigated how climate change will impact 48 countries that represented about 90% of the global economy and ranked the nations according to their climate resilience. If no immediate action is taken, the global temperatures could rise by 3.2 degrees Celsius by 2050 and wipe off up to 18% of the worldwide GDP ("Global Economy," 2021). Figure 1 below gives a summary of the research findings.
