Growing up, I was raised in a pro-life environment, where the topic of abortion was primarily based on a religious viewpoint that implicated that abortion contradicts God's design and sanctity of life. My initial beliefs and opinions on abortion were linked mainly to religious' pro-life stand but have since been challenged by the legal standpoint where women have a right to abort in high-risk pregnancy cases.

The legality or illegality of abortion is based on the pregnancy rights that support abortion and the penal code for abortion. For instance, the Dominican Republic has implemented a total abortion ban since 1884, which has sparked significant opposition from abortion-rights activists (“Dominican Republic: End Total Abortion Ban,” 2021).
