The sudden employment burst of mothers, according to a report by Donnelly et al. (41), is attributed to the change in attitude towards the role of women. Due to this, many women have opted to go back to work after childbirth. However, there are is a constant debate over the impact of mothers’ employment on their families. On the contrary, these concerns are unwarranted since working mothers have a positive effect on their families. Working mothers do not harm their families as employment ensures financial stability, happiness and inspire egalitarian thinking by breaking stereotypes. Working mothers provide financial benefits to the family. For many decades, the roles of women were limited to household chores, while the male figures were tasked with providing for the family. As these roles become demystified and mothers take up employment, a family has more than one source of income. Having sufficient finances means that the family can have not only all the basic needs but also a surplus that is used for leisure (Sultana and Noor 116). Furthermore, the surplus income provides funds for further education and emergencies. Therefore, working women are playing a significant role in ensuring that families thrive financially. Working mothers act to break stereotypes and inspire their children. For many years, the roles of women have been influenced by their gender and societal perceptions. Working mothers, therefore, act to break these stereotypes as they work as hard as their male counterparts. In a family, working women serve as role models for their children. According to a report by Rushing and Sparks (1262), working mothers feel proud of their achievement as they transmit egalitarian and progressive ideologies to their children. Also, working mothers allow stay-at-home dads to take up the role of primary caregiver, which also changes the societal perspective of child-rearing. Thus, working women empower their families by acting as role models. Families with working mothers are happier. Working mothers continually face work-family conflicts. Due to this, these mothers take up careers that are more fulfilling and will ensure there is a continued balance between work and family responsibilities. A happily employed mother will pass the satisfaction to her family while also striving to make good career choices following the needs of the family. Notwithstanding, sharing the financial burden enhances not only the relationship between their partners but also meets the developmental and emotional needs of the children. Therefore, families with working mothers are happier as there is a shared burden of social, developmental and financial responsibility. In conclusion, the change in the societal perspective of women has seen more mothers take up employment.
