Reflection Name Institutional Affiliation Date Reflection Noguera’s article, which focuses on the existing disparities in the education sector, brings to light the real issues that have been turned a blind eye on for a long time. True to his assertions, the No Child Left behind Law (NCLB), with the aim of closing the achievement gap, is laudable as it is meant to improve the outcome of education in public schools. However, this law fails to acknowledge the existing challenges in public schools that the enactment of law cannot resolve. There are the underlying factors that have caused the broadening of the achievement gap that needs addressing for the law to be fruitful. Inequality in society is a leading cause of the broadening gap. On the one hand, there is the need to acknowledge that public schools mainly deal with children from poor backgrounds whose families can barely meet their basic needs. True to the article's assertions, children from affluent families have a greater chance of meeting their educational goals than those from low-income families. This has led to the broadening of the achievement gap that cannot be closed through the requirements of the NCLB. Though teachers in public schools may put the best effort into meeting these students' educational needs, they have little control over the kind of life led by these children back at home.
