Efficacy of Verbal Remedial Teaching on the Acquisition Competency of EFL Learners (Essay Sample)
This is a critical review article of the paper by Chan, A. Y. & Li, D. C., 2002. Form-focused remedial instruction:an empirical study. International Journal of Applied Linguistics, 12(1), pp. 24-53.The authors researched the efficacy of verbal remedial teaching on the language acquistion competency of EFL learners at the secondary and tertiary education levels. In specific, Chan & Li(2002) used a “concious raising (CR)” method of oral corrective instruction to facilitate the correction of three types of anomalies- they are the connective “on the contrary”, the adjective “concern”, and the verb “concerned” (Chan & Li, 2002).

1 Introduction
The ensuing discourse is a critical review of the article by Chan & Li(2002). The authors researched the efficacy of verbal remedial teaching on the language acquistion competency of EFL learners at the secondary and tertiary education levels. In specific, Chan & Li(2002) used a “concious raising (CR)” method of oral corrective instruction to facilitate the correction of three types of anomalies- they are the connective “on the contrary”, the adjective “concern”, and the verb “concerned” (Chan & Li, 2002). Further, Chan & Li(2002) also examined the efficacy of oral corrective instruction in addressing grammatical and lexical anomalies such as “pseudo-tough movement” which refers to the application of structures from ones first language in the acquisition of another.
