Despite the educational challenges facing indigenous Canadian women and even with the recommendations to use intersectionality theory to address the problem, many people remain ignorant of the extent of this gender issue (Ng, 2019). The first step to solving the education gap among this group of the Canadian population is to make it known because the system cannot solve what it is not fully aware of. Therefore, strategies need to create awareness of the issue, its scope, extent, and possible measures to mitigate it. Indigenous women unaware of their right to education cannot understand and question gender inequality and oppression in learning institutions. Similarly, the government and other systems cannot address what they do not understand or even know how deep it runs. Only when all the stakeholders, including the victims of this systematic oppression, are on the same page about the issue that there is potential and hope of eliminating it (Acker, 2010).
