In today’s contemporary world, feminism has turned out to be the notion in majority people including celebrities. An evident example is renowned artist and celebrity Beyoncé who from her lyrical content and pundit comments clearly elucidates the emblematic cognizance of feminism. Drawing the debate from the word’s definition, feminism is the belief and aim that women should have the same rights, powers and opportunities as men. What people fail to realize is that man and woman are alike, how? They are both humans. Man and woman are at the same time different, for they have different strengths, perceptions and abilities. These very simple differences have created a colossal difference from the start of time. If man and woman behaviors are studied, it will be tallied that both have their strengths and weaknesses that have 50%-50% magnitudes. Beyoncé’s practices of fighting gender inequality are overrated and are completely controvercial.in a first world economy where civilization was implemented centuries ago, equality has been harnessed in the member congress, the freedoms of attaining power and influence have been leveled without being biased on gender. What may hold us back are our cultures that infringe the freedoms of freethinking and chain us to the regurgitating traditions.
Arguably, some aspects like rape stand out as they involve other perspectives of sexuality. However, as much as Beyoncé would like to fight rape culture using her feminism approach of skimpy skirts and "underboobs”, these images of her stimulates the male figure to gain the desire of committing the injustice. Rape culture dates back as early as the 1980’s where most of it was practiced in educational fraternities and colleges. According to koss, gidycz and wisneiwski, 1 in 4 college women confess that they were raped or had experienced attempted rape and 1 in 12 men confessed that they forced a woman into sexual intercourse against her will.it is clearly evident here that women are taken as sex objects to pleasure men, a heinous act of interaction. Rape culture is carried therefore by the youthful age since they only see a woman as a means to obtain sex only. The rubrics of majority of the societies have put in law the incarceration of rape and defilement crimes to curb the menace of rape, and should get stricter jurisdictions against the act.
Heading closer home, another form of gender insensitivity and mutilation is domestic violence in families. Society is integrated from the grass-root level that is the home, in the same way; society is divided starting from the homes. This violence is the most common type of male to female violence. It is gruesome to realize also that within the families, violence not only occurs in between a husband and a wife but also in between fathers and daughters. From the review, women are continually used as sex objects. A tradition nurtured from the different cultures the husband and father comes from. Therefore the route cause being our obsolete cultures, it gets hard for a society to break free unless sessions of counseling are implemented.
