Ways to End Sexism
Sexism is harmful to an entire community, and not just the women who fall victim to the vice. Gender prejudice may affect men, but women are the most vulnerable. A sexist society perceives women to be more inferior and incompetent than men. Due to cultural trends, this attitude is rampant in many countries today. Exposure to sexist acts or remarks could have a detrimental impact on a victim’s health and workplace productivity. Leaders in developed states employ various strategies to address the matter, but it remains a significant social issue. Ending sexism requires the involvement of men as social agents and the promotion of equality in the workplace and other social settings.
Men should be actively involved in the efforts to eradicate sexism. Due to past frustrations, lobby groups that advocate women’s rights seclude men from their campaigns. This action is counterproductive because the isolated constituents sabotage the lobbyists’ plans. Instead of portraying men as the perpetrators of sexism, responsible groups need to view them as crucial participants whose contribution could help to end the vice. Der Gaag (2014) posits that involving men in the fight against sexism is commendable because they could influence their peers to change their perception of women. Enlisting men as social change agents will have a lasting impact on the eradication of sexism.
