Introduction
Political Parties in the United States of America are formed based on certain ideologies. Each of these parties has their positions on issues that affect various aspects of the United States citizens. For regard to taxation policy, it should be recognized that each of these political parties have various stands as explained here below.
On the part of the Republican Party, they hold the view that a government should raise taxes for purposes of performing essential services such as maintenance of infrastructure, to protect the citizens against criminals as well as maintain national security (Brownlee, 2016). In other words, the tax collected from people does not belong to the government but to the taxpayers who earned it. Indeed it has been argued that the Republicans raise money to benefit big businesses and the wealthy.
The Democrats raise taxes to fund social programs that are aimed at raising living standards of the general public (Scharpf, 2015). They believe that the government should subsidize services that are essential for the running of cities, states and the entire country. They advocate for tax cuts for the middle class with the aim of offering relief to workers in different sectors of the economy and their families. The Green party on the other hand is of the view that progressive taxation as a matter of principle. Their belief in anchored on the fact that those who benefit most from the government system have the responsibility to return more (Folke, 2014). To this extent, it should be noted that the Green party are opposed to the flat tax.
