The chosen project is based on social action project. It is inclusive of short research. The topic was decided on is "Contaminated space-Mental illness, Addiction and Disease. This is majorly based on issues that are affecting the society these days, analytical and exhaustive research will be done about the topic to come up with possible solutions in relation to the public issues that Downtown Eastside is facing. Besides research, there will be participation in some community actions that are related to the topic. Community works like voluntary cleaning of the Downtown Eastside alongside support groups within the vicinity. Cleaning of the roads and small towns especially environmentally unfriendly dumping sites to ensure that the contaminated space is restored. There is need to have a clean environment so as to avoid some of the common infections that are associated with dirty environment.
It is also of concern that in Downtown Eastside, many people are really suffering from illnesses and since some have financial problems and the state of poverty within the town, they rarely get the opportunity to receive the necessary medication. Apart from illnesses, there are rampant incidences of drug use and addiction, violence and sex trade.
