Racial privileges in different situations and organizations
Racial privileges are the liberties and advantages that some people get due to their skin color. The rankings depends with the skin color such as the people with a lighter skin often have the upper hand privileges while the darker skin has less. The race privilege encourages the stereotypes that revolve around the predominant racism. For instance, in US the light skinned has more privileges and the common stereotype and idea is such as most Asian- Americans are not born in the United States (Ryde, 2009).
The racial privileges create a huge gap between the people and forms classes. However, it is not as if the people realize that they are discriminating on the darker skins. This is because when born, this the kind of relation that they found. The privileges have been there for a very long time over centuries. Only the darker skins and those denied the privileges that they do realize that it is not a free world to have their choices like those of lighter skinned. The white belief is that the privileges are the conditions of their daily experience.
The racial privileges are present in the places of work, schools, social places, clubs, and other institutions and organizations. Racial privileges in schools deny the dark skinned the value of attaining their standards. To this effect the brown v. board of education declared that the field of education especially public schools, the doctrine that was there of separate but equal held no place. Thus, the educational facilities in the schools were inherently unequal. Unequal opportunities for the both races were hardly available and mostly the blacks often had no say.
Brown v. board of education of Topeka around 1896 did reverse the decision of the court ruling that did permit "separate but equal" public facilities. It is grievous to find that even a court ruling could have such permissible privileges yet it is the place that is expected to be justice.
Segregation in the public schools for the colored and the white children has a disadvantageous and detrimental effect on the colored student. With the law sanction in support, the impact is worse and greater since the separating policy of the races is normally interpreted as inferiority denoted and designated as the group of Negroes (Fireside & Fuller, 1994). This kind of intimidation and the feeling of inferiority usually affect the child’s ability to learn. Moreover, with the law involved in the segregation there is likelihood and tendency to retard and hold back the child’s mental development as well as disruption of education for the dark skinned children.
In some other instances, the dark skinned face challenges such as abuse and direct confrontation from the white skinned. The white skinned feel that they could dominate each sector without the dark skinned involvement. With the dark skinned getting to their territory, they would receive harsh treatment and abuse. For instance, in duality duel by Daniel Beatty, he asks, "can the nerd and the nigger coexist?" CITATION Dan08 \l 1033 (Beatty, 2008)This is actually hate speech and it is referring to the dark skinned. Hate speech against the blacks has been going on for a long time. The whites find they are superior and they have the law in support of their privileges. Duality duel is one of the selling books with too much hate speech in it, yet it is still in the market and an appreciation by many whites.
Jokes against the dark skinned seem to be the most hilarious in the Americans way of life. For instance, some of the funny jokes in knock knock, usually make fun of the dark skinned. They often make jokes that are discriminating against the blacks. They may not have an impact on the white race but the blacks often feel offended by some of the jokes (Thomas, 2013). This also affects their mental way of thinking and they find that in some way they face marginalization and segregation in terms of presentations. It also affects their way of thinking as they fail to embrace their nature and may face distrust among themselves and from the whites.
In the work situations, racism is paramount with some organizations posting directly that only the whites are required. In others, they may not advertise but the working conditions for the whites and the blacks differ. This may be in terms of salaries, the kind of work each are assigned and the level of education. A learned black may have their category among the less learned whites and receiving same pay or less (Fasching-Varner, 2012). The work distribution is also unfair to the blacks as they often receive the hard jobs and those that are less appealing. Racial discrimination is a strategy that pulls back the developments and usually targets the blacks which is inhumane to justify them negatively instead of working collaboratively to the growth of a nation.
Recommendations to avoid racism
Something ought to be done to reduce these kinds of injustices in the systems of work, education and the social places. The educators should step in and create awareness as well as enlighten the people on the disadvantages that come along with segregation...
