Same Sex Marriage

Institution:
Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage refers to marriage between two persons, and who are of a similar biological sex. Same sex marriage is called gay marriage for marriage between two male partners and lesbianism for marriage between two female partners. In the 20th and 21st centuries, several same sex unions have been legalized (Zimmerman, 2003; Sullivan & Jackson, 2001). Same-sex marriage has been legalized in eight European countries such as Iceland, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway. The legalization process is currently ongoing in countries such as France, Finland, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom. Legislators in the United Kingdom have expressed their supportive intentions toward same sex marriage.
People have different opinions, beliefs, and reasoning in regard to same sex marriages. Some people believe that God made a man and a woman so that they could join hands and say their vows in the right manner. It is thus expected that a man is for a woman, and a woman is for a man. However, some states have legalized marriage between same sex partners. There are various reasons why some people call for legalization of the same sex marriages. To start with, people suggest that we are all sinful in nature and that we have a weakness to sin in various ways. People express their sins in one way or another but differ among people. Some people find homosexuality as one of the fair and balanced way to express their sinful character (Wolfson, 2004). Secondly, people argue that marriage is one of the basic human rights, and where people can make personalized choices. In this case, the state should not interfere with same gender marriages (Meezan & Rauch, 2005). Thirdly, through ending discrimination, it is easy to enhance human spirit and thus resulting to better lives.
From a personal opinion, I would refute the three reasons given in support of the same sex marriages. It is unjust to take advantage of the grace of God, by claiming that human beings are sinful in nature. We are supposed to glorify God and follow His will by doing rightful actions. As such, we should not do what we wish because we perceive it to be right. Instead, we should exercise our rights to rightful marriages, a marriage between people of different sexes. According to the Laws of God, marriage is holy and that it should not be violated. Secondly, people claim that they are subjected to discrimination through banning of the same sex marriage (Castle, 2003). Illegalizing a lesbian and gay marriage is not any form of discrimination. In religious countries, same sex marriage is not acceptable with God and the religious customs.
Finally, same sex marriage violates traditions and cannot be used as a way of procreating. As such, same sex marriage should be discouraged in all ways. From a logical viewpoint, it would be better for a child to have a mother and a father than two fathers or two mothers. Different people hold to different opinions when it comes to same sex marriages. However, God made man and woman so that they would join and say vows in a rightful way. Thus, same sex marriage seems odd and should not be accepted (Baker, 2010; Fredrick, 2014). The rightful marriage is whereby a man is for a woman, and the woman is for a man.
In conclusion, same sex marriage refers to a union of two people of the same gender in a ...
