Sociology a vast and complex field. Various approaches have described the relationship between different factions and groups of the society. The most influential of these include the functional analysis and the conflict theory. The former views that the various divisions of society seek to live in harmony with each other (Henslin, 2017, P, 26). On the other hand, the conflict theory states that these groups are in constant competition with each other (Henslin, 2017, p. 28). Therefore, various theorists each provide a differing account of how social order is maintained within the society.
In light of this, personal perception on the issue of the social order includes a measure of each of the above notions. Social order is not a one-sided argument but rather a collective of various factors. Therefore, both functional and conflict theories apply. Perhaps a contemporary illustration can be found in the manifestation of globalization. The continuous endeavor towards the establishment of regional and eventually a global economy evidences the workings of functional analysis. Different communities, cultures, nations, and continents come together to find common ground through world trade and activities such as sports.
However, conflict theory is also relevant. Reason being that competition is the greatest driver of development in contemporary society.
