An interview is a formal meeting where one or more persons ask questions, consults or evaluates another person
An interview with two different individuals regarding their positions in society:
1 Medical doctor.
2 Bank teller.
Each person’s class, race, and gender include:
1) Medical doctor - Class (Lower middle class)
- Race (White)
- Gender (Male)
2) Bank teller- Class (Working class)
- Race (African American)
- Gender (Female)
Roles class, race and gender have played in their lives may include;
1 Medical Doctor
- Role played by class
The medical doctor leaves in the suburbs. He has a high level of education which can be seen on the way he is expressing himself in the way of language. He one child who has gone to a great known school called Terman Middle school within the Californian suburbs. He was taken to a great school by his parents and currently, he ensures that he has passed that on to the next generation, his son, it’s like a vicious cycle. This is where the rich try as much as possible to remain at the same level they were. He has a small group of friends, some at the same workplace, and others at the same home and others are churchmates. He has signed in for a golf club, pays a monthly fee to renew his membership in the club.
-Role played by race
He is well taken care of, lives in an area with security; He is able to have a good health insurance cover, hence he is able to receive good services. As a white man, he is not limited to any service in the Californian suburbs.
-Role played by gender
Men and Women’s behavior that are considered socially appropriate is termed as gender roles. The medical doctor was very independent looking, he was very comfortable, he has been in marriage in the past 4 years, he looks competitive, he is that person who concentrates more on fashion, he is never left behind with current affairs, there are ways he likes his things done, his items picked. He is assertive.
2) Bank teller
-Role played by class
She lives in the inner city, she has a large group of friends, in the workplace, in the inner estate, has a grocery store where she resides after work or when in off duty. They usually visit the Elderly and those in the children’s home. She is not from a wealthy background; the English is not as good as the doctors. She has 3 kids who study in Santa Maria Independent School District, Texas.
-Role played by race
Despite the fact that she works in a bank as a teller, she has not been able to give her kids a health insurance cover. She is only able to access low-quality services despite the age and time we talk of civilization in our midst, there is still racism. His children get to be bullied by children of the white race.
-Roles played by gender
The female bank teller is very sensitive on how she is being interviewed, she dislikes some behavior, she is very passive, she has supported many people in her community, the elderly her family among other duties.
How stratifiers are playing a role in the Society.
Class, gender, and race play a role in the life of the medical doctor, this is because man has the full responsibility of taking care of the family, as a male, it is very important when such roles get someone to follow up to them. While living in the suburbs of California, especially where the government has had taxes on everything then bills have to be paid, bills which stand up for the services various companies provide e.g. Newspaper delivery at the door, electricity bill among other things. The right person to play such a role is the medical doctor. The doctor supports all this and says that it is a means to survive and to take care of the family. If the doctor does not work the society is going to look down upon him,
For the Bank teller she is still young and already into working herself out, she can easily get a job, because she is flexible in terms of time and space.
The society is said to be stratified because the Bank Teller is a female and she cannot try to do jobs that are done by the doctor, all the bank teller can do is visit the grocery store with or without the kids. It is also cultural in that activities performed by men, who include providing and sustaining the family cannot be done by women, The only thing they do is provide what nature provides to them. This clearly shows that the society we have is varying in the current day organized. Paying school fees, paying hospital bills, going to the grocery shop are all orderly things that need to be attended to while living in our current society. When the doctor crosses to the other side he causes disorder in the society that is when he involves himself in the grocery shop. The society can be said to be stratified when each and every individual plays their required role. This will promote gender equality among members of the society.
An application on the sociological Perspective (Social-Conflict) on an individual's life
Social - conflict.
This particular perspective was chosen because both the interviewees the medical doctor and the bank teller compete. For one they, compete for resources because they have a long list of conflicting ideas. The medical doctor is from a well off background, he is able to have access to high-end school for his kid, able to go to trips overseas for vacation, He gets to spend in modern hotels and still be able to provide for the family.
The bank teller, on the other hand, does not have access to good health services, she is only limited to a small holiday package with the rest of the family. The best she can do when on holiday is baking a cake for the family and invite in-laws to spend some time with them before the holiday ends.
An explanation of each person’s life and life choices,
1 Medical doctor
The doctor who is a father and yet a husband is in a competitive life where he wants to achieve more, better himself than where he actually is, he wants to further his education, better his future and ensure the family never lacks
2) Bank teller
The bank teller, who is a mother and a wife, majorly focuses on family issues, the society. She wants to have them comfortable and well catered for.<...
