Twins
Twins originate from a single egg after being fertilized. They have same genes and share the same womb of their mother. Medical researchers prove that twin delivery is common in north and South America and Africa (Pogrebin, 2010). When twins are born they share common characteristics but any differences between them are caused by the environment. However, the developmental stages of the twins determine their drawbacks and benefits.
There are several benefits associated with the early years and childhood of twins. During this time they have not yet adopted to the environment that could bring differences in their lives. They develop trust between themselves and enjoy being together. Their intimate relationship gives them the comfort of tackling issues in their live. They can play together and keep each other’s company when going to school. In addition, they give each other the support and comfort in school work. However, when parents separate the twins and raise them in different environments, their characteristics change. For instance, one twin can be raised in an environment that embraces celebrity lifestyles. The other one can be raised in an environment that embraces simple lifestyles. The twins can grow up to be different individuals compared to when they are brought up in a common environment (Pogrebin, 2010).
Twins appear special due to their common characteristics. They are physically alike and usually appear unique with similar dressing attire. In addition, some are born with similar talents such as swimming, singing or playing football. These characteristics place the twins at a higher status in the society compared to single birth children. People in the society respect their parents and give the twins an extra attention than other children (Pogrebin, 2010). In addition, twins get the opportunity to grow together as ultimate soul mates. They undergo same developmental stages and share almost everything together. For instance, they share same shoes, toys, clothes and even experiences. This act of sharing gives them a sense of brotherhood that helps them to share things with age mates and other people in the society.
The drawbacks of being a twin usually happen during the teenage stage. During this period the environment, where they are raise, also causes these drawbacks. Sometime parents may decide to separate the twins especially after a divorce. Since these twins have been together since childhood it becomes a problem to separate. They suffer psychologically when the other ultimate soul mate is at a far distance. When twins become teenagers the level of connecting and partnering with other people in the society becomes a problem. It is difficult for them to make close friendship with other people. In addition, they cannot get into a love relationship with any primary partner (Pogrebin, 2010).
In conclusion, fertilization of a single egg leads to creation of twins. These twins share similar genes and womb of their mother...
