A News Article Analysis: Immigration
In her article, Hansen (2020) explains how economic factors led to the decision by the United States president to temporarily restrict legal immigration into the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Immigration is among the top priority issues for voters in the United States because it affects the livelihoods of all people in varied ways. On one hand, president Trump believes that high numbers of immigrants into the United States have led to lower wages and increased unemployment rates for the citizens (Hansen, 2020). On the other hand, Blitzer (2019) argues that democrats and those aligned to their views have been against the Trump administration’s harsh policies on travel bans and family separation (arising from the deportation of illegal residents). On the other hand, the Republican Party support of the executive order is purely political and only meant to appeal to voter bias. At the moment, there is little movement into the country which makes the immigration cessation policy not economically significant in the short run (Ordoñez et al., 2020). Social science research can better inform politicians and voters about immigration issues by interviewing policy advisers, citizens, as well as academic researchers wor
