Since time antiquity until the 17th Century, Italy was regarded as the origin of the western culture and as well as the starting point of some worldwide phenomena such as the Roman Catholic Church, the Roman Empire, educational and cultural reforms. It is well known that both the external and internal facets of the western culture originated from the Italian peninsula. Moreover, Italy played a major role in the fight against the death sentence. Italy is a home of of many well-known civilians this includes the Greeks, Phoenicians, Etruscans, Romans and the Samnites. The most famous elements of the Italian culture include its music, art, iconic food and fashion (Killinger, 2005). Food is very crucial to the Italian culture such that very few may doubt the place of food in the Italian cultural and national identity. Food is commonly recognized to be an important part of the Italian culture. Some national dishes are considered to provide Italians with a reason to be proud and cause of nationwide celebrations.
The starting of international food selling brands that sell Italian foods such as pizza and pasta makes people around the globe to recognize the Italian food. Core foods are those that people consume more frequently, usually on a daily basis. They are kinds of food normally include some complex carbohydrates. In Italy they include Italian noodles with a tomato sauce. Secondary food include the types of food that are widely consumed but not frequently eaten, foods such as apples chicken or lettuce consumed once a week, in Italy this kind of foods include beans or lentils (Parasecoli, 2004). On the hand, foods that are only consumed sporadically are refereed as peripheral foods. These types of food are characterized by an individual’s preference. They do not form any part of Italy’s cultural habit. They include alpine cheese, Piedmonte, the pesto of Liguria and the Alba truffle and pizza

The main dinner placements include placemats that are positioned one inch after the end of the dinner table. The placemats are not a must when setting a formal dinner table but they add style to the dinner table. There is always a service plate and an optional salad plate placed at the centre of the dinner table. A butter and bread plate is also placed near the salad plate. The dinner table for an Italian culture is not complete if it does not have silverware. These mainly depend on the kind of food to be served.
